Start with the ceiling you already have
If your ceiling is in good condition and there is suitable access above it, insulation rolls may be the starting point for your project. Aerolite and Knauf offer glasswool or glass mineral wool products for ceiling applications. The material sits above the ceiling surface; it does not replace the boards you see from inside the room.
If you are building a new ceiling or replacing a damaged one, consider the ceiling construction as well as the insulation. Isoboard is a rigid insulated board with a visible surface. It is a different product choice with its own fixing, joint and finishing requirements. Decide which type of work you need before comparing quotations.
For ceiling insulation in an existing house, record the rooms that need attention and what you know about the roof space. Mention access restrictions, visible damage and any work already planned. A photograph and a simple measurement sketch give the supplier a more useful brief than a total floor area alone.
Aerolite or Knauf: compare the selected options
Aerolite Soft Touch is supplied as flexible glasswool rolls. Knauf Ceiling Roll is glass mineral wool made with ECOSE® Technology. Both ranges contain different thicknesses and roll coverages, so the brand name alone is not enough to compare an order.
Start with the product R-value required for your ceiling, then compare the relevant options in the table above. Check the price per square metre alongside the quantity of whole rolls. A roll with a higher ticket price can cover more area, and a lower roll price does not automatically mean a lower project cost.
When comparing ceiling insulation, keep the scope consistent: the same measured area, the required thermal specification, the same allowance and the same tax basis. Open each product page for its full thickness choices and technical information. Confirm the exact product and pack size before accepting the quotation.
Understand thickness, R-value and coverage
Thickness describes the depth of the material. R-value describes its resistance to heat transfer. Coverage tells you how many square metres the supplied roll covers. These measurements answer different questions, and each matters when you are selecting materials.
The ceiling insulation comparison displays the product information entered for each variation. Compare the stated material R-values, and check the manufacturer's current data for the product being supplied. A material value is not the same thing as the performance of your complete roof and ceiling construction.
Do not select a thickness solely because it fits an available gap or carries the lowest price. The appropriate specification depends on the building and proposed installation. Ask the person responsible for your project to confirm the required performance and how the material will be fitted.
Compare ceiling insulation prices fairly
A price per roll tells you what one pack costs. A price per m² makes it easier to compare packs with different coverage. For a material estimate, you also need the number of whole rolls required to cover your measured area.
The calculation is straightforward: divide the roll price by the roll coverage to get the square-metre rate. Divide the area you want to cover by that coverage, round up to a whole roll, and multiply by the roll price. The comparison tool does this for each listed option when you enter an area.
Your final ceiling insulation quotation should distinguish materials, delivery and installation. Check the tax wording on the prices and compare all quotations on the same basis. Access work, preparation or removal of unsuitable existing material can also change the scope of an installation quotation.
A practical quantity example
100m² does not always mean buying exactly 100m².
A roll covering 6m² needs 17 rolls for a 100m² ceiling, giving 102m² of material. A roll covering 9m² needs 12 rolls, giving 108m². Both calculations exclude an extra allowance. The final cost depends on each roll's price, so compare the complete quantities as well as the rate.
Measure before ordering ceiling insulation
Measure the actual ceiling area being insulated. For a rectangular room, multiply length by width. List each room separately, then add the areas that belong in your order. Check passages and other included spaces rather than assuming the property's advertised floor area is the correct material measurement.
For sloping ceilings, use the ceiling surface dimensions rather than the floor footprint. Irregular areas may need a measured sketch. Tell the installer about obstructions and sections that cannot be reached; an area total does not show whether the material can be fitted continuously.
The ceiling insulation calculator offers an optional allowance for planning. Choose an allowance that suits the layout after discussing cuts and fitting with your installer. A percentage is not a substitute for measuring, and you should not add the same allowance again to an estimate that already includes it.
Plan the installation as part of the purchase
Ask how the selected product will be fitted around access hatches, services and changes in ceiling level. Follow the insulation and equipment manufacturers' instructions for the application. Discuss electrical fittings, heat sources and required ventilation with the installer before work starts.
Ceiling insulation performs as part of an installed system. The material quantity should allow the specified area to be covered properly, and the installation plan should address gaps, damage and obstructions. Existing roof leaks or ceiling defects need attention as part of the project planning.
If sound control is a priority, explain the noise problem separately. A thermal product choice does not establish the sound performance of the complete ceiling. The ceiling surface, roof covering, construction and installation all belong in that discussion.
Prepare a useful ceiling insulation enquiry
Send the product you are considering, your preferred thickness or required specification, the measured area and the delivery location. Include the calculated roll quantity and state whether you need material only or an installation quotation as well.
For ceiling insulation orders with a fixed site date, confirm stock and delivery arrangements before scheduling labour. Product options displayed online are not a promise that every thickness is available for immediate collection. Your final quotation should identify the product, quantity, price basis and agreed delivery terms.
Keep the chosen product page with your enquiry so the supply team can check the same option you compared. Where your measurements or specification are incomplete, say so. It is easier to resolve an uncertain detail before the order is placed than after materials arrive.
